Feel Inside (and stuff like that)

I am sure we will be quoting this for years to come. Growing up in the 80's live aid was the best. NZ's version is so much better, cos' it's funny! If you buy the song you are supporting Cure Kids NZ, there are so many reasons to enjoy this video. Helpahelpahelpa the kids.

OK Go three primary colours

More Sesame Street links. Gillian Welch videos aren't quite as entertaining as this educational spandex endorsing clip.

Will.i.am sings What I am

Will.i.am and Sesame Street are not indie music for under twos but this song is soooo catchy.  I have also included the families version. It includes so many varieties of resilient families and it made me cry once; "we are persistent", so cute!

The Supremes - Baby Love

Time to sing along or sing to your little one people!

Lesson notes for older kids: you can explain that black and white TV came before colour TV and demonstrate appropriate dancing for young people in this video.

The Boy Least Likely To - part deux

Isn't it great how French makes you sound so clever. We love to love-hate the French and how superior they are/appear to be!

The Boy Least Likely To may not be the most twee band ever but they may come close. I love them and they were one of the most fun concerts I ever went to.

Here is Brak21's fan video for the song I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon To Your Star. It is done with stop motion and is clever and funny. Well done Brak21.

Instrumental + Big Bubbles No Troubles.

Or in French, bulles de savon ge´antes.

I wish I knew the name for this piece of music! Here is a beautiful video of Sylvain making big bubbles in Paris.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

I realised that I was no longer the cool one when it came to an old friend of mine when she said 'you know Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros'... I did not. I do know this song though! Much relief.

Here is Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros lovely song Home. The video is made by MK and enables a karaoke party. Tinydoodlez on you tube offers other fun sing-a-long times too!

Karen O and the Kids

All is Love is a great song to dance about to. You may have the book Where the Wild Things Are at home and one day may watch the film this song was made for. Kids LOVE to feel 'in the know' and so will love to recognise the characters in this video. There is some shouting in this song - fun times for joining in!

Caravan Palace

Experts recommend that you expose babies to all sorts of music. Today's video will have you jumping and jiving around the house.

Caravan Palace are a French band from Paris, oo la la! They are a modern swing and jazz band who dress in 1940's Parisian Punk style. How cool do you want your toddler to be? Get them hooked on these beats!

Sugar Sugar by the Archies

This song is so well known but did you know it was written for a TV show in 1969? You can sing along with this cute video and impress your tiny tot. They will think you are cool and enjoy the cartoon I'm sure!

Tilly and the Wall

This band gained notoriety as the percussion is largely provided by a tap dancer! They also dress a bit like Hi 5 and so you might fool your toddler into watching their videos and be able to dance along yourself.

The song Alligator Skin is filmed live but still has pretty good sound quality. This video calls for a dress up party! Whoop de doooo

Architecture in Helsinki

Architecture in Helsinki from Australia utilise a lot of fun percussion instruments and my fave instrument, the trombone!

Todays track has an awesome animated video and a dance sequence to learn in the instrumental. I am sure this song will get a good toddler knee bob going. Let me know!

Feist on Sesame Street

We all grew up watching Big Bird and Oscar chat to Gordon and Maria, slowly repeating c.   at.    c.  at.  c. at. Cat! Of course Sesame Street was cool then, but it is also cool now!

Listen with your littley about the magic of Counting To Four with Canada's darling Feist.  My 4 month old was diggin it.

The Boy Least Likely To

Is this an obvious first choice?   I hope so!  Just look at the album cover, so cute, so baby friendly!  The Boy Least Likely To can introduce your wee babe to new instruments and a classic walking beat. Last.fm tells me they were included in the top ten bands of 2006 in Rolling Stone magazine, and described as sounding like what would happen “if all your childhood stuffed animals got together and started a band.”

Now take a look at this cute stop animation of Just Be Gentle With Me.

Cue toddler clapping and many shouts of yay and hooray!

Alternative Title - Indie Music for Babies

Now that you are a parent, aunt, uncle, grandparent or babysitter do you have to listen to kids music all day? No! Surely there are artists out there that the discerning musical ear may enjoy and the new to this world ears will like too. Time to find some cross over!

Suggestions Welcome!
